Our Quiet Area
The PTA decided that the refurbishment should be their major project for
2003/2004.
More than £10,000 has been raised over the past year through various fund
raising activities such as the Christmas Fair, discos, circus, Family Fun Day,
Barn Dance and Quiz Night.
The School Council, led by Mrs Robinson asked children from each class to
contribute ideas on what they would like to see in the new Quiet Area.
Here are some of their suggestions:
| Games | Archway | Tables for reading, chatting, playing games | Fenced in area |
| Flowers & trees | Tub | Shade | Seating |
| Stepping stones | Winding path | Colour, painted benches, blue pebbles | Hand prints or names in concrete |
| Snowdrops | Sculptures | Sun Dial* | Clock* |

The children wanted to get rid of the broken slabs and wobbly logs, they wanted
to see Quiet Area Rules.
We decided to use a local firm, Acorn Garden Services run by John and Anne
Masey. They have won local awards for garden design, have featured in BBC
Gardeners World Magazine, and are past semi finalists in BBC Gardener of the
year.
John and Anne incorporated the childrens ideas into the plan and began work
in October.
The new Quiet Area is an attractive refuge for the children to use during
playtime and lunchtime away from the bustling playground. All of the plants
have been carefully chosen with children in mind.
One of the suggestions made by the children was that they would like to
have concrete squares filled with children's handprints. Eight children from
each year group were given the chance to "print" on them. We also invited
some ex-pupils, as they were involved in the design and fundraising required
to pay for the project.
By popular request from the children, Mrs Jeffries who was involved in the
planning and development of the project, performed the official opening ceremony.
